Skype and Verizon announced that the Skype Mobile video calling App will be available for Verizon 4G LTE Mobile network. They have made steps to get video calling available to all Android devices supporting a front facing camera, and sometime in mid-2011, video calling with Verizon is ready for action providing great options when it comes to making Skype-to-Skype video calls over Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network.
According to the two companies, the new deal was meant to expand the video calling capabilities of Skype to millions of new users, while also offering them a great video experience on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE wireless network.
“We heard the demand for mobile video calling loud and clear from our users and are delighted to meet this demand with a mobile video calling product that takes advantage of Verizon Wireless’ new network in the U.S.,” said Russ Shaw, general manager and vice president of Skype’s Mobile Business Unit.
However it wasn't mentioned if its functionality will be accessible on native level (via the phonebook), or the user will still need to launch it as a third-party application.
It’s expected that Verizon will release 4G LTE devices by the mid of 2011 with updated Skype Mobile Video calling App.
