Angry Birds get $42 Million Funding increased for expansion; Skype Co-founder and others contributes


Rovio has decided to expand its business of Angry Birds with $42 Million funding increased, You will surely remeber the Rovio when talking about Angry Birds since the brain behind the ever super hit Game Angry Birds is them, the Rovio has increased funding for Angry birds to expand across market including Mobile, Social Media, and other Plat Forms via Merchandising and Media Production and Partnership.
As of the expansion, Skype Co-founder Niklas Zennstroem  has been named to its board. Funding was co-led by Accel partners,  Angel investor Felicis Ventures has also contributed to Rovio. Accel Partners has previously backed Facebook and Baidu, a chinese Web service company.
According to Reuters, Mikael Hed, chief executive and co-founder said that ”Angry Birds will continue to grow and we aim to create more similar success stories,”
The game currently has 40 million active users on various mobile platforms, and Rovio claims it has sold over 2 million plush Angry Birds toys. Over 75 million paid and ad-supported versions have been downloaded. Revenue share and revenue per copy vary, the company said.
Skype Co-founder said that “This investment will give Rovio wings,”. “Angry Birds is one of the fastest-growing online products I’ve seen, growing even faster than Skype, and the company has done a brilliant job of extending it across different platforms and merchandise.” he added
Rovio is aiming for 100 million Angry Birds downloads through the next year or two. Since the expansion to several platforms the company really needs a funding like this.
